The first experience under this agreement began in the second half of September with Sonia Molina Lorente, a young woman with an intellectual disability, who will undertake her training at the “José Becerril” Municipal Library in Baza. Sonia, also a member of the Specific Classroom at IES “Pedro Jiménez Montoya”, will assist with tasks such as organizing books, identifying publications, preparing rooms for activities, and public assistance, among others.
The agreement, ratified by the mayor of Baza, Pedro J. Ramos, and the president of Granadown, Francisco Hidalgo, aims to enable individuals with Down syndrome to supplement their theoretical training, acquire socio-labor skills, and improve their future employability in the job market. The signing was attended by councilors Mª Carmen Sánchez and José Gabriel López, along with Sonia's parents and association staff.
The internships, which are purely for training and not employment, will last nine months per participant, with daily and weekly schedules adapted to the characteristics of the individual and the assigned municipal department. To ensure the smooth development of this relationship, the City Council has appointed an internal tutor who will maintain constant contact with the association's labor trainer.
