The town will host the traveling exhibition “1526. Charles V and Isabella of Portugal in Granada”, promoted by the Provincial Council of Granada. This initiative is part of a broader program of cultural, scientific, and heritage activities organized by the University of Granada (UGR) to celebrate its V Centenary.
The mayor, Marino Aguilera, attended the program's presentation at the UGR Rectorate, alongside the Minister of Culture of the Regional Government of Andalusia, Patricia del Pozo; the mayor of Granada, Marifrán Carazo; the Deputy of Culture of the Provincial Council of Granada, Pilar Caracuel; and the rector of the UGR, Pedro Mercado Pacheco.
The exhibition will tour four municipalities in the provinces of Granada and Jaén, including Alcalá la Real, Pinos Puente, Santa Fe, and Albolote. Mayor Aguilera highlighted the opportunity for Alcalá la Real to be part of these events, allowing it to showcase its history and heritage.
The City Council aims for this commemoration to generate cultural activity and strengthen ties with institutions such as the University of Granada, the City Council and Provincial Council of Granada, and the Patronage of the Alhambra and Generalife. The program emphasizes the humanist tradition of Charles V, the origin of the UGR, and his visit to Granada with his wife, staying at the Fortaleza de la Mota.
