Joy and satisfaction fill the Real Club Tenis de Mesa de Linares following an unprecedented day of success at the Spanish Championships. Athletes Javier Moreno and Ferrán Torres have been the standout performers, securing national titles and bolstering the club's reputation.
Javier Moreno, partnered with Darío Carrillo from Cordoba, earned a commendable bronze in the doubles event, adapted Class 11 category. Meanwhile, Ferrán Torres, alongside David Gil from Granada, achieved the runner-up position in doubles, serving as a prelude to the individual victories.
The climax arrived in the individual competitions. Javier Moreno was crowned Spanish Champion in Intellectual Disability – Male Skills after defeating Vicente Bernalte 2-0. Shortly after, Ferrán Torres mirrored his success, also becoming Spanish Champion in Intellectual Disability – Male Competition by beating Eduardo Cuesta 3-0.
These triumphs represent the first major trophies for the club and the initial national titles for its athletes. The Spanish Championships conclude on July 5th, with further success anticipated from the club's competitors.
The case of Javier Moreno, just 13 years old, is particularly noteworthy. After starting at the club, he returned last season, a decision he now celebrates as a Spanish Champion. His family has expressed immense pride, a sentiment shared by the entire club.
Ferrán Torres, originally from Catalonia, relocated to Linares to join the High-Performance Centre. In addition to reaching the Honor Division with the Tecnigen Linares second team, he now holds the title of Spanish Champion. He is also expected to represent Spain internationally soon. His family is acknowledged for their support, allowing him to pursue his dream despite the distance.
These achievements by Javier Moreno and Ferrán Torres, with the technical support of Edgar Núñez, place Linares at the forefront of national table tennis.
