The mayor of Sanlúcar, Carmen Álvarez, accompanied by the president of the Royal Society of Horse Races, Rafael Hidalgo, inspected the arrival area of Las Piletas today. Final details are being arranged for the 181st edition of the equestrian event on the city's beaches, scheduled to kick off next Saturday, August 8th.
Rafael Hidalgo outlined this year's new features, including unified furniture, new signage to guide the public, and notably, improved accessibility for individuals with reduced mobility within the constraints of the Las Piletas beach environment.
The mayor, along with the delegate for Environment and Beaches, Carmen Pozo, expressed gratitude to the Racing Society for their year-round efforts in keeping this celebration, declared of International Tourist Interest, vibrant. Álvarez highlighted the significant economic impact of the races on the city and the consistent collaboration from the City Council.
Furthermore, the mayor emphasized the dedication of all entities and individuals who make this annual event possible, requiring one of the most substantial security operations of the year in Sanlúcar. She encouraged both locals and visitors to enjoy the six days of competition.
The races will take place over two cycles: the first from August 8th to 10th, and the second from August 21st to 23rd. A total of 26 races will be held, one more than the previous edition. The first cycle features 12 races, while the second includes 14, including the Grand Prix City of Sanlúcar, sponsored by the City Council and traditionally held on the closing day.
