Socialists believe this decision represents a missed opportunity to address the historical needs of Arrayanes, one of the city's most densely populated areas. The motion aimed to implement solutions to structural problems affecting residents.
During the session, socialist councilor Antonio Coronel defended the initiative, emphasizing its “constructive” approach and its goal of responding to the daily reality of the neighborhood. Coronel detailed that Arrayanes suffers from serious deficiencies in areas such as maintenance, cleanliness, green spaces, and security. Specific issues mentioned include waste accumulation, deteriorating playgrounds, pest infestations, and uncontrolled vegetation.
“"These are not anecdotes; these are realities that residents convey to us daily."
The councilor stressed the importance of the current government team assuming its present responsibilities, avoiding justifications based on past administrations. The socialist proposal included concrete measures such as requesting the Junta de Andalucía to transfer roads and green areas to allow municipal intervention, reopening Local Police facilities in the neighborhood to enhance public safety, and creating a specific action plan to clarify competencies in certain spaces.
The PSOE regrets that the stance of PP and VOX ignores neighborhood demands, accusing the mayor and her team of “preferring not to see the reality” of Arrayanes. They have reaffirmed their commitment to continue working with residents to bring their needs to institutions and propose effective solutions.
