Following a significant police operation and the anticipation of family and friends outside the Court of Guard in Jaén capital, the three detainees, belonging to the Almerian family clan known as 'Los Saúles', were brought before the court. The arrest occurred last Friday.
The individuals testified before the judge at Court Number 3 of Jaén concerning videos posted on social media. These recordings allegedly contained serious threats directed at members of the rival clan, 'Los Lateros'.
After answering the judge's questions, all three were released to applause from the numerous family members and friends gathered on Calle Carmelo Torres in Jaén capital.
The incident began on the night of May 25th, when a white car stopped on Calle Rocabril in Huelma. Two occupants of the vehicle opened fire with revolvers at three sons of Saúl 'El Viejo' and other neighbors, resulting in five injuries, four of them by gunshot. One of the injured, identified as Antón 'El Seco', a member of 'Los Saúles', claimed to have recognized two members of 'Los Lateros' during the escape. A long-standing feud exists between the clans, escalating since June 2025.
The car used in the attack was found burned out near the town of Huelma. Meanwhile, in Adra, eyewitnesses reported that 'Los Lateros' were evacuating women and children from their homes due to fears of retaliation from the family attacked 300 kilometers away.
The patriarch of 'Los Saúles' is currently missing and subject to a search warrant. His sons have stated he fears for his life from hitmen allegedly hired by 'Los Lateros', suggesting the attackers in Huelma might have been mercenaries hired for a revenge killing related to an incident in 2025.
Despite Antón 'El Seco' previously telling Jaén Hoy that his family sought justice rather than revenge, he and his brothers had posted threatening videos on TikTok just hours earlier. The recent arrest of the three 'Los Saúles' members followed a joint operation by the Civil Guard of Jaén and Almería, which uncovered weapons, ammunition, and cash. Police sources indicated it was a preventive measure due to clear indications of an impending violent response to the previous week's shooting.
