Amidst "profound economic, social, technological, and geopolitical transformations," the union expressed concern over the rise of authoritarian and hate speech, without attributing it to any specific political actor, although it occurs within the framework of negotiations between PP and Vox for the investiture of Juanma Moreno. These rhetorics, according to UGT, pose a "risk" to "democratic values and the rights won by working people."
The union reaffirmed its "commitment to democracy" and its concern for the well-being of the "working social majority," in the face of advancing "inequality, exclusion, or hate speech." It also reiterated its commitment to "effective equality between women and men" and announced "the fight against any form of discrimination."
We meet to reaffirm our commitment to defending labor rights, democracy, social justice, and improving the living conditions of the working social majority.
In the area of public services, UGT Andalucía highlighted the "deterioration of public healthcare," pointing to waiting list management, a deficit of professionals, and the increasing privatization of essential services. Furthermore, it demanded "more resources for public education, dependency care, and social services," emphasizing their "universal" nature and the need for "quality" provision to ensure "equality" and "territorial cohesion."
Housing was identified as a "main concern for citizens." In response, the union advocates for "a substantial increase in the public housing stock," along with "measures against speculation," the "mobilization of vacant housing," and rent subsidies.
From a strictly union perspective, UGT Andalucía advocated for reducing the workweek to 37.5 hours as a "preliminary step towards achieving 32 hours," calling it a "historic demand" to "advance in work-life balance, well-being, and quality of life." It also called for a "fairer distribution of wealth," the "strengthening of collective bargaining," improved wages, and recognition of professional qualifications, demanding that economic recovery translate into "a real improvement in the purchasing power of working people."
