The inter-university project Resina (Roots of Resilience), led by the Universitat Jaume I of Castellón in collaboration with the Public University of Navarre (UPNA) and the University of Cádiz (UCA), has been chosen by the Ministry of Culture to participate in the IX Culture and Ruralities Forum. This event, to be held in Zafra (Badajoz) from October 20 to 22, 2026, is a national benchmark for reflecting on culture and the future of rural areas.
According to its promoters, Resina is the only Spanish university project selected for the forum. This choice highlights the commitment of higher education institutions to their territories and the value of knowledge transfer from rural environments, demonstrating growing national interest in mapping and valuing rural resilience.
The initiative views culture as a key tool for rural development. The promoters of Resina consider daily practices, collective organization, traditional celebrations, and care systems as fundamental intangible heritage for life in villages, offering innovative responses to the ecological, economic, and social challenges of the 2030 Agenda.
The entity Serranías Vivas, a local association dedicated to the territorial reactivation of the Serranía de Ronda and adjacent areas of Seville and Cádiz, participates as technical assistance. With the support of the Ministry of Social Rights, Consumer Affairs and the 2030 Agenda, Resina has identified over 200 rural sustainability practices through prior workshops.
