Damaged road in the Sierra de Cádiz, with cracks and potholes, reflecting the need for infrastructure investment.
The Izquierda Unida political group has urged the Junta de Andalucía to implement lasting solutions for the roads in the Sierra de Cádiz, stressing that infrastructure deterioration is a long-standing issue, not solely a consequence of recent storms.
Representatives from Izquierda Unida have expressed their support for citizen demands for decent communication routes in the region, noting that the current situation is the result of years of neglect. Although recent storms exacerbated the condition of the roads, the party insists that the starting point was already deficient.
“
"The harsh situation suffered by the infrastructures of the Sierra de Cádiz is an evident consequence of the disasters caused by the train of storms, but it is undeniable that the previous starting point of the roads in the region was not the best, and we have been denouncing this from IU."
The political group believes that the improvement of the Sierra de Cádiz must be a priority for the Government of the Junta de Andalucía. They argue that it is crucial to use the current situation not only to repair the damage caused by the storm but also to rectify the historical neglect of the regional administration towards the area.
They have also highlighted the need to restore normalcy to citizens' lives, including the recovery of communications between municipalities and the restoration of all bus services, both interurban and school. The interruption of school transport for students from Grazalema attending IES Las Cumbres de Ubrique due to the poor condition of roads A-2302 and A-372 has been a critical point of their complaint.
“
"Life goes on and the Sierra cannot stop its normal activity for months; it is necessary that all necessary resources are put in place to restore fluid communication for citizens between municipalities and the restoration of all bus services, both intermunicipal and school; the Sierra cannot continue to wait."
The party has criticized temporary solutions, calling them “patches” that benefit no one. They demand large investments to guarantee road safety and prevent the region from suffering the same consequences and accident risks in future storms.
