The mayor has described the situation as «unsustainable» and urged the company to implement measures «now» to ensure a quality service. According to García, this marks the sixth incident of connection outages exceeding 24 hours in 2026, which has negatively impacted businesses and hospitality establishments, preventing card payments, and affected essential services like access to electronic medical prescriptions and administrative procedures.
The breakdown that occurred last weekend, leaving the town isolated from Friday to Monday, was caused, according to Telefónica, by a landslide between kilometers 2.7 and 3.5 of the road connecting Grazalema with Ubrique, resulting in two points of rupture in the line.
The mayor considers it a «paradox» that the town has 5G connectivity but relies on a single line. For this reason, he has proposed the installation of a second backup connection to ensure service continuity in the event of future connection failures.
Additionally, the City Council has filed a new complaint requesting that Telefónica automatically apply the corresponding bonuses and refunds to affected users. This request joins initiatives already approved by the Municipal Plenary and the Mancomunidad de Municipios de la Sierra de Cádiz, as well as meetings held with the Secretariat of State for Telecommunications and the Junta de Andalucía.
