The delegate of the Junta de Andalucía in the province of Cádiz, accompanied by the territorial delegate for Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development and the mayor of Villamartín, has overseen the start of these operations. The primary objective is the restoration of damages to the public hydraulic domain, resulting from the catastrophic series of storms that affected the region.
“"It is essential to carry out these works in this and other municipalities in the Sierra de Cádiz and the province to assist the affected population and localities, as well as the primary sector, which is fundamental in this land."
Technicians have detailed that the force of the water has caused overflows, undermining riverbanks and crossing elements such as the Toleta bridge in Puerto Serrano. These incidents have led to significant damage to crops, uprooted trees, erosion, and altered river courses due to the extraordinary water flow during the storm cluster.
The emergency works focus on restoring the hydraulic capacity of the rivers and streams affected by the intense rainfall of recent months. Additionally, they aim to repair damaged infrastructure and reduce potential risks, prioritizing the protection of population centers and essential infrastructure.
The works include hydrological-environmental sanitation of dragged debris, natural resource management tasks such as felling, pruning, and clearing, and the recovery of the hydraulic section of the riverbeds. The restoration and stabilization of defense infrastructures are also planned, applying circular economy principles to valorize the soil generated during the cleaning process.
Furthermore, during the technical visit, residents of Villamartín were informed about the commencement of asphalt paving on part of the exit ramp towards Arcos de la Frontera on the A-384 road, at kilometer 19, an action requested by the local City Council.
