The cultural audiovisual platform Arte.tv has premiered the documentary A Forest Reborn from Ashes, which will be available for free until June 29. This release coincides with the start of summer and the consequent increase in fire risk in Spain, addressing the natural role of fire in Mediterranean landscapes over thousands of years.
A significant portion of the footage focuses on Andalusia, highlighting its exposure to flames and the joint efforts for the recovery of affected areas. The work visualizes the survival mechanisms of native plant and animal species, such as the thick bark of Andalusian cork oaks that protects their vital parts, and the need for heat for the biological richness of the Mediterranean scrubland.
The documentary, scripted and directed by Heiko De Groot and Alix François Meier, also explores current challenges in forest management in Europe, with a particular focus on Andalusian areas undergoing recovery. It emphasizes the vulnerability of monocultures compared to the resilience of mature forests, whose diverse ecosystems offer safe havens for wildlife after fires.
Arte.tv thus offers a scientific and hopeful perspective on the natural regeneration of mountains, reaffirming its European vocation for reflection and cultural creation.
