The police force of Algodonales wished to show its support for the agent of the Local Police of Puerto Serrano involved in last Thursday's incident. During an armed robbery in a central town square, the agent was forced to use his service weapon, firing twice at the assailant, who subsequently died.
In its statement, the Algodonales police emphasize that "no police officer wishes to be forced to use their firearm," but stresses that "in such situations, inaction also has consequences." It is recalled that the assault occurred in a crowded area, endangering families, minors, and the elderly.
“"When a person shoots at police officers and endangers the lives of those around them, the absolute priority is to stop that threat."
The statement defends the action as a proportional and last-resort response, noting that the use of the service weapon "represents the last option when all others have ceased to be sufficient to protect lives." It highlights the training and responsibility behind each officer and their weapon, used only when there is no alternative to save a life.
Finally, it invites reflection: "before judging a police action of this nature, it is worth asking what would have happened if that threat had not been stopped in time." The robber, identified as a resident of Guadalete street nicknamed 'Malos Pelos', had modified his shotgun and fired at the officers up to three times, in addition to assaulting the bank's teller.
