Cycling and environmental associations in Seville are celebrating this Sunday, April 12, the completion of the pedestrian and cycling bridge in San Jerónimo, a key infrastructure connecting Seville and La Rinconada after two decades of demands.

This new connection, built over the Ronda Supernorte (SE-20), has been a long-standing aspiration for citizen groups for 20 years. The bridge, measuring 4.30 meters wide and 197 meters long, eliminates a significant risk point at the SE-20 highway roundabout, providing safe passage between Seville, La Rinconada, and La Algaba.
The investment for this supra-municipal project exceeds 3.4 million euros, fully funded by European Next-Generation funds. The tender and management of the works were carried out by the city councils of Seville and La Rinconada, highlighting inter-institutional collaboration for its realization.
The promoting groups have called for a celebration event this Sunday at 11:00 AM, next to the SE-20 roundabout, to commemorate the bridge's opening. During the event, a statement will be read, and a family photo will be taken, symbolizing the success of citizen mobilization.
The bridge not only improves safety but also expands the metropolitan cycling network in northern Seville, facilitating access to green infrastructures, metropolitan parks, and river channels. This includes connections to the central Guadalquivir valley, the bridges of La Algaba and Alcalá del Río, and the historic Humilladero de San Onofre, a national monument previously difficult to access.

What was once an obstacle now becomes the solution that we thank the city councils of Seville and La Rinconada and the Junta de Andalucía for, and thanks to their collaboration, a key infrastructure is realized to continue developing the network of cycling routes north of the urban agglomeration of Seville.

While this bridge represents a significant step forward, the groups emphasize the need to continue working to ensure cycling continuity on other important routes, such as the connection from Seville to Torreblanca and the Guadaíra river park, from Bellavista to Dos Hermanas, or from Santiponce to La Cartuja, with the aim of making cycling accessible throughout the metropolitan area.
