The town of Zahara de la Sierra in Cádiz is dressing up to celebrate its Corpus Christi, one of the oldest and most emblematic festivals in the Sierra de Cádiz. This year, the celebration, reaching its 526th edition, will take place on Sunday, June 7, 2026, and promises to transform the municipality into a true open-air garden.
The festival holds a dual institutional recognition: it was declared a National Tourist Interest Festival on April 24, 1980, and a National Tourist Interest Festival of Andalusia on May 20, 1997. Preparations for this unique celebration begin days in advance, with residents gathering rushes, branches, and aromatic plants to decorate the streets.
The event program kicks off on Friday, June 5, with a Cachiporras workshop and the inauguration of the Corpus Poster Exhibition. On Saturday, June 6, a guided tour of the Medieval Villa and a concert by the Nuestra Señora de los Dolores Musical Association will be offered.
On Sunday, the main day of Corpus Christi, the streets will be covered with eucalyptus, oleanders, and flowers, along with bedspreads and shawls, creating a unique spectacle. The day will begin with the 'Diana Floreada' by the Musical Association, followed by the 1st Photography Contest. The Holy Mass will be held at 11:00 AM in the Parish of Santa María de la Mesa, preceding the solemn Procession of the Blessed Sacrament through the decorated streets, led by a 15th-century monstrance.
After the procession, the municipal marquee will host various musical performances by Trío Zafiro, DJ Chivo, and DJ Nexxa, extending into the early morning hours.
Monday, a local holiday, will feature a mass and procession of Nuestra Señora del Rosario, followed by the XXVIII Traditional Cachiporras Contest. The festivities will conclude with more music at the municipal marquee.
