The popular jury's verdict, delivered after a day of deliberation, establishes the unanimous guilt of the main accused for the murder perpetrated in February 2024. It was deemed proven that the assailant shot the victim in the head by surprise, leaving no chance for defense, using an unlicensed weapon. Subsequently, he appropriated the victim's belongings before abandoning the body near the Parque Alcosa market.
In addition to the crime, the jury determined that the accused manipulated his vehicle's license plates after committing the act. The jury's decision also includes an opposition to any potential suspension of the sentence, suggesting a firm judicial response.
The attack was premeditated and executed with the intention of ending the victim's life and appropriating their personal effects.
Among the stolen items were a bag, approximately one thousand euros in cash, and other articles. The jury confirmed that the shot was unexpected, leaving the victim with no option to defend themselves.
In the same judicial process, Vanesa, who was initially accused of concealment and other offenses, was found not guilty by the majority of the jury regarding her involvement in the murder or robbery. Eight out of nine jury members rejected that she had assisted the main accused in committing the crime or stealing the money.
However, Vanesa was unanimously declared guilty of covering up the events hours later by concealing the perpetrator's responsibility. The jury also expressed an unfavorable opinion regarding the possible suspension of sentences for both the main perpetrator and the woman convicted of concealment, anticipating a rigorous penal sentence.
The verdict was announced on the afternoon of Wednesday, April 15, after just over a day of deliberation. The trial had begun on April 6. According to the Public Prosecutor's Office, the crime occurred on February 18, 2024. The accused drove the victim to the vicinity of the Parque Alcosa market, where he faked a vehicle breakdown to stop, and then shot her with the intention of killing her and stealing her belongings. The case now awaits the sentence that will specify the corresponding penalties.
