The prosecution has requested a two-year prison sentence for the three defendants for reckless injury. The private prosecution, representing the victim, has increased this request to three years. Both parties had initially sought compensation of approximately two million euros for the woman's physical and psychological sequelae, although this claim will now proceed through civil proceedings to expedite the criminal case.
The trial, which has already been postponed twice, focuses on the events of June 2022. The victim, then 42 years old, had to be admitted to the ICU of the Burns Unit at the Virgen del Rocío University Hospital in Seville due to her injuries. Following the incident, the 'escape room' suspended its operations.
According to the prosecution's account, the incident occurred during the game. After solving enigmas in various rooms, the victim was placed on a chair, her hands bound, and a rope around her neck. One of the defendants allegedly doused the woman with a liquid that smelled strongly of gasoline. Despite the victim's warnings, one of the investigated individuals lit a lighter, causing the fire.
The victim attempted to extinguish the flames unsuccessfully before one of the defendants sprayed her with a fire extinguisher and pulled her outside, where she received assistance. The provisional indictment details that other participants were also sprayed with the same flammable liquid, awaiting ignition.
