The competition, which brought together over 350 swimmers from various categories, took place on a 3,000-meter rectangular circuit. The start, with more than 150 participants, was particularly challenging, leading to an intense struggle for position in the initial meters.
The athlete, representing a Portuguese club, maintained a strong start, positioning himself among the top fifteen. However, an incident at the first buoy and discomfort in his left shoulder affected his performance. Despite these adversities, he managed the race intelligently, staying with the group and drafting behind other competitors.
He completed the race in 42 minutes and 1 second, earning him the 25th position in the overall absolute classification. In his master category (50-54), he achieved a commendable bronze medal in a very close finish, just six seconds behind silver.
