The initiative, promoted through the Confort Térmico program by the Junta de Andalucía, has enabled the installation of nearly 1,800 split air conditioning units in classrooms. This measure aims to improve living conditions in schools during extreme heat episodes, where temperatures frequently exceed 30 degrees Celsius.
The total investment allocated to the province amounts to 12 million euros, with budgets tailored to the specific needs and size of each school. In addition to air conditioning units, schools have implemented other solutions such as installing insulated windows, shading structures, awnings, and planting trees to reduce solar heat gain.
“"The administration relies on the cooperation of local entities to expedite pending procedures and complete the execution of funds before September 30."
Despite the progress, 40% of the schools that received the grants are still awaiting municipal processing. Meanwhile, the Junta de Andalucía maintains an additional bioclimatization plan with an investment of 6.8 million euros, bringing the total budget for thermal improvements in the public education network to 65 million euros.
