Themed children's playground in Seville with elements of astronomy, art, trains, and nature.

The Seville City Council has initiated a project to create four unique children's playgrounds, investing €853,600 in spaces combining astronomy, fine arts, train travel, and nature.

Seville's Parks and Gardens Service has launched an initiative to design and install four "singular" children's play areas. With a total investment of €853,600.00 (VAT included), the aim is to move beyond the traditional concept of recreational zones, promoting spaces that stimulate creativity, physical activity, and social integration for all children.
This initiative breaks away from Seville's historical lack of strategic planning, where play areas were often installed improvisationally. The new tender prioritizes playful effectiveness and healthy development, aiming for each district to have high-quality facilities accessible within a 20-minute radius.
The project is divided into two lots. Lot 1, with a budget of €466,000, focuses on Astronomy and Fine Arts. It includes the Psicomotronic Park (North District) with a space theme and an area on Calle Sinaí (San Pablo-Santa Justa District) inspired by visual arts, literature, and theater.
Lot 2, allocated €387,600, addresses Train Journeys and Nature. At Calle Castillo de Baños de la Encina (South District), the evolution of railways will be recreated with elements like bridges and tunnels. The area on Calle Monzón (Palmera Bellavista District) will be dedicated to the four elements of nature: earth, water, fire, and air.
A fundamental pillar is the inclusive and multisensory nature of the areas, designed for children with and without disabilities to play together. Single-level games, wide pathways, and activities stimulating sight, hearing, and touch will be installed, including carousels, rockers, and adapted swings.
Materials will be of high quality, resistant to vandalism and weather, such as HPL panels, stainless steel or aluminum posts, and one-piece stainless steel sliding surfaces. Safety will comply with standard UNE EN 1176, featuring artificial turf over draining polyethylene panels to minimize fall impact.
Three of the areas (Sinaí, Castillo de Baños de la Encina, and Monzón) will be located on top of underground parking garages, with strict technical requirements not to exceed a maximum load of 270 kg/m² and using non-invasive foundations with galvanized steel plates.
Following contract award, companies will have one month to submit the final proposal and six months for installation, respecting existing trees. Each park will feature detailed signage with recommended ages, emergency and maintenance contacts, and usage rules.
