The event, starting at 9:00 AM on Ramón y Cajal Street 20, will gather various representatives from collaborative housing initiatives across Andalusia. The main objective is to highlight the value of senior cohousing as a living alternative that promotes self-help and improves quality of life, social economy, and the environment.
These conferences aim to position cohousing as an effective tool against unwanted loneliness, a growing issue in Spain and other countries with high longevity. Furthermore, it will be presented as a fundamental resource within the state strategy for developing a community care model.
Key speakers include José Antonio Sánchez Medina and Laura López de la Cruz, professors from the Pablo de Olavide University, who will analyze cohousing as a model against loneliness. Also participating will be Elia Gómez Castro, consultant at the Social Research Information Service (SIIS), and María Rosario Gómez-Álvarez Díaz, professor at the University of Seville and director of the UNIA Social Economy Chair, to address cohousing within the framework of the economy for people and the transformation of the support and care model.
Joaquín Salvador Lima Rodríguez, president of SECOAN and Olivar Plaza cohousing, will present the association and the current state of cohousing in Andalusia. The conference will also feature interventions by Alicia Martínez Martín, general secretary of Housing of the Junta de Andalucía; Prudencio López Vicedo, president of Vida Sostenible Cohousing; Juan Carlos Cordero Magariños, architect designer of the Olivar Plaza community living center in Gines (Seville); and José Antonio Carbonell Cañado, head of Fiare Banca Ética in Andalusia.
Participants will discuss cohousing as a community residential use dwelling under the Andalusian Housing Law and the essential elements for its creation, including community formation, architectural aspects, and ethical financing sources. Registration for the conferences is free and includes breakfast and a Spanish wine reception at the end.
