The Seville City Council encountered a social media incident during the early hours of Tuesday. The Council sent a screenshot of Elon Musk's profile on X (formerly Twitter) via private messages on Instagram. Several individuals followed by the Council's official accounts received this unusual message in the middle of the night.
Sources from the City Council explained that the situation points towards a technical problem with one of the external companies working for the Council in this area. There is no evidence of account hacking or any breach of public systems, and it is considered a minor incident. Nevertheless, access keys have been changed, and the Council's social media platforms have continued their normal operations throughout the day.
PSOE councilor Juan Tomás de Aragón was one of the recipients. The councilor posted on his X account on Tuesday: "At 4:22 AM, the official account of the Seville City Council sending me messages on Instagram. Curious way to manage public time. After following me and trying to discredit me, now they even write to me at dawn." The message received was precisely a screenshot of Elon Musk's official account.
Elon Musk, a South African-born American entrepreneur, acquired the social media platform Twitter in October 2022, renaming it X. The founder of Tesla also served as an advisor to former US President Donald Trump and is considered the world's richest person, according to Forbes magazine in June 2026.
