The Local Government Board of the Seville City Council has greenlit significant property and service agreements. Notably, it has approved the segregation of a municipal plot in the Torreblanca neighborhood, a crucial step for the future construction of the New Las Lumbreras Parish Complex. This project, resulting from over a year of negotiations between the Church and the Council, aims to provide the area with a new religious and community center.
The concession of the land to the Archdiocese of Seville will provide the necessary legal security for the parish complex construction to proceed. The City Council emphasizes its commitment to using municipal assets for initiatives that benefit neighborhoods. The Archdiocese plans to build four new churches in the next decade, including projects in Palmas Altas and Dos Hermanas.
Concurrently, a solution has been provided for the Casco Antiguo Charitable Assistance Foundation with the grant of the former Garaje Laverán, located at Baños 61 street, to house its Social Economy Center. The organization, which had operated at its previous location for 25 years, required a new space to continue its assistance work after being unable to maintain its original site.
The municipal property, spanning 561.35 square meters, will be granted free of charge for a period of 50 years. The Foundation will cover all expenses for utilities, licenses, maintenance, and necessary renovations to adapt the former garage for its new use as an economy center. This center, supported by 40 brotherhoods and Cáritas, assists approximately 600 vulnerable families monthly with food, hygiene, and cleaning products at a 75% discount.
The relocation of the economy center necessitated the de-assignment of the Garaje Laverán from the custody of the Institute of Culture and Arts of Seville (ICAS). Municipal archaeological funds and materials stored there will be inventoried and safely transferred to other facilities, with the former Convent of Santa Clara being a potential future destination.
Additionally, the government board initially approved the Urban Planning Study for a plot at Luis Montoto, 138, which will transition from a service station to a six-story commercial building, increasing its buildable area and aiming to revitalize the urban environment.
