The upcoming elections for the Andalusian Parliament place Seville as a territory of particular interest. In the previous elections, the Popular Party achieved a historic result by surpassing the PSOE in this province for the first time, securing nine seats and 40% of the votes. The PSOE, led by Juan Espadas, who was the capital's mayor, obtained five deputies.
On that occasion, Vox consolidated its position as the third force with two parliamentarians, while the left-wing formations Por Andalucía and Adelante Andalucía each secured one seat. This precedent makes Seville a pivotal point for the current electoral campaign.
The Popular Party, which four years ago achieved victories in traditionally socialist strongholds such as the capital and Dos Hermanas, aims to maintain and expand its lead. To do so, they will highlight the management of the Andalusian president Juanma Moreno, contrasting it with what they describe as the central government's neglect in infrastructure matters. Meanwhile, the socialists, as in other provinces, will focus their discourse on defending public healthcare.
Vox will direct its attention to the Sevillian agricultural sector, while the left-wing coalitions have set their main objective as curbing the advance of the far-right in the region.
