Seville: Intensified Watering to Protect North District's Trees

27,500 liters weekly are allocated for recently planted trees and those showing signs of water stress.

Seville City Council has intensified tree watering in the North District, allocating 27,500 liters of water weekly to ensure the adaptation of young trees and protect specimens showing signs of heat-related stress.

The water reinforcement program primarily focuses on the 952 trees added during the last two municipal planting campaigns. It also addresses specimens that, according to technical assessments, require additional water to maintain adequate vegetative health during the summer months.
To carry out these tasks, the Parks and Gardens Service uses a main tanker truck distributing 4,000 liters daily, Monday through Friday. This is supplemented by a second, smaller capacity vehicle designed to access streets and areas where larger trucks cannot easily operate, providing an additional 7,500 liters per week.

"Adapting work methods to the characteristics of each neighborhood allows us to better care for the trees and reach where they are most needed. Combining different types of vehicles enables us to provide a more effective service and respond more agilely to the needs of our green heritage."

Watering begins immediately after each tree is planted. The most recent planting campaign started in November 2025 and concluded in March 2026. After a period of regular watering until the rains arrived, this specific reinforcement campaign was launched and will remain active until October.
This initiative not only aids in the establishment of new plantings but also intervenes on trees showing signs of water stress. Municipal technicians adjust water supply based on detected needs to promote their recovery and enhance their heat resistance.

"Tree maintenance requires constant monitoring and actions adapted to each situation. This daily work helps us build a more resilient green infrastructure, capable of offering increasing environmental benefits to the residents of Seville."

Through this campaign, Seville City Council continues to strengthen the conservation of its green infrastructure in the North District, promoting efficient water management planned and adapted to the needs of each space, contributing to a greener, healthier city better prepared for high temperatures.
