The annual Red Cross report for 2025, presented by regional delegate Jerónimo Vera in Seville, reveals that the organization assisted 30,365 people in Andalucía facing severe vulnerability, including energy poverty, lack of basic resources, and, in the most critical cases, homelessness. This figure, while significant, shows a 37% reduction compared to the 48,400 people in extreme vulnerability assisted in 2024.
Over 9,800 homeless individuals received direct support from volunteer teams, who provided warm clothing, food, and companionship. The Red Cross also adapted its responses to the extreme weather events of 2025, setting up temporary shelters to protect the most exposed during heatwaves and cold spells.
“"We have seen how the price escalation of recent years, coupled with housing access problems, causes many people to face situations of extreme social risk."
Vera expressed concern about the impact of international conflicts on potential price escalation, which could exacerbate the precarious situation of these individuals. The work of the Red Cross, supported by nearly 30,000 volunteers in Andalucía, extends beyond logistics, offering guidance, emotional support, and assistance in accessing public benefits and resources.
Social inclusion was the primary focus of the Red Cross in 2025, with approximately 73% of its budget allocated to this area, excluding healthcare centers. The main groups assisted included the general population (over 53,000 citizens), immigrants (fewer than 33,000), youth and children, individuals in precarious employment, those in extreme vulnerability, and citizens with health problems.
Unwanted loneliness, affecting the elderly, youth, women victims of violence, and homeless individuals, remains a persistent challenge in Andalucía. The organization promotes initiatives such as “Elderly-Friendly Businesses” to forge alliances with local shops, raise awareness about loneliness, detect vulnerable situations, and offer Red Cross resources to older people.
