The regatta, jointly organized by the Lagos Sailing Club and the Palos de la Frontera City Council, brought together numerous boats from various nationalities, reaffirming its international character and its importance as a historical link between the two towns, especially in the context of the Discovery of America.
The competition included a prologue race in Portuguese waters before the main course, which this year started from Lagos heading towards the coast of Huelva. The inaugural day concluded with a traditional welcome dinner in Portugal, maintaining the custom of alternating organization between the two municipalities.
The mayor of Palos de la Frontera, Milagros Romero, highlighted the significance of the sporting event during the race as a bridge uniting the two sister towns through history, emphasizing their legacy via the values of sport.
The closing ceremony and trophy presentation took place at the Municipal Sailing School in Mazagón. The crew of the Choque received recognition as the overall winner of this edition. However, local vessels from Palos de la Frontera and Mazagón did not manage to secure top positions in the standings.
This thirty-fifth edition marks the conclusion of one of the most emblematic sporting events in the province of Huelva, combining competition, international cooperation, and historical memory, thereby strengthening the ties between Palos de la Frontera and Lagos.
