The strike called by SEM will impact public transport services during key events for the city, such as the Copa del Rey final, scheduled for Saturday, April 18, 2026, at the Cartuja stadium, and the Feria de Abril, which begins on Monday, April 20, 2026, with the traditional Lunes de Pescaíto.
Consulted union sources anticipate that the strike's turnout may be limited, as the protest has not gained the backing of the five unions that make up Tussam's works council. This council includes the General Confederation of Labor (CGT), the Drivers' Union Group, the Independent Transport Workers' Union (SITT), CCOO, and the Independent Union of Civil Servants (CSIF).
This protest is neither supported nor called by the committee; rather, it is driven by SEM's pursuit of notoriety, as there is no current conflict, nor do we believe the City Council will breach what has been signed.
The SEM union section at Tussam justifies the strike by arguing that the workforce bears an excessive workload during events like the Feria and Holy Week. They also criticize the lack of investment in the company and the absence of recognition for employees, as well as the shortage of buses to meet increased demand. Despite the call for a strike, the union has expressed its willingness to negotiate with management to prevent further harm to citizens.
The partial stoppages will occur on the following dates and times: Saturday, April 18, 2026 (from 7:30 PM to 8:00 PM), Sunday, April 19, 2026 (from 1:00 PM to 1:30 PM), Monday, April 20, 2026 (from 8:00 PM to 8:30 PM), Tuesday, April 21, 2026 (from 8:00 PM to 8:30 PM), Wednesday, April 22, 2026 (from 1:00 PM to 1:30 PM), Thursday, April 23, 2026 (from 1:00 PM to 1:30 PM), Friday, April 24, 2026 (from 8:00 PM to 8:30 PM), and Saturday, April 25, 2026 (from 1:00 PM to 1:30 PM).
It is worth noting that SEM previously attempted, unsuccessfully, to revoke Tussam's works council months ago. Despite broad support at the polls (91% of votes cast), the initiative failed due to a lack of quorum, as less than half plus one of the registered workers participated. The revocation proposal was driven by the Municipal Companies Union, which has no representation on the council, and was based on a signature campaign to express the dissatisfaction of part of the workforce.
The Junta de Andalucía has established minimum services of 50% for buses and trams during the affected days and time slots of the strike, as well as 25% for maintenance staff and other services, a figure lower than the 80% requested by the calling union.
