The incident, reported by the Administrator of Railway Infrastructures (Adif), caused delays for services linking the capital with Andalusia. Although a cable theft was initially suspected, the root cause was identified as a failure in the infrastructure's signaling systems.
This disruption coincides with the commissioning of the second track in the Alora section, which was previously affected by a landslide. Stabilization works in this area have been completed, involving the movement of 195,000 cubic meters of earth and the finalization of electrification and safety installations.
Despite the incidents, rail capacity is increasing during the summer season. Renfe has expanded weekly services between Malaga and Madrid, increasing from 166 to 174, representing a 5.8% rise in available seats.
Meanwhile, the operator Iryo has also reinforced its commercial schedule until August 31, reaching a maximum of 14 daily frequencies on peak demand days, adding 28 new weekly services to the route.
