Emergency services received notification of the discovery of the lifeless body at 06:59 AM, during a time when the central beach, located opposite the Barceloneta neighborhood, lacked lifeguard services.
This tragic event follows the death of two minors on Friday in a rocky area of L'Arrabassada beach in Tarragona. A 12-year-old boy lost his life while playing with two other minors, jumping from rocks into the sea. The other two were hospitalized in critical condition, and one of them, aged 13, died early this morning at Joan XXIII hospital.
Several units from the Emergency Medical System (SEM) and patrols from the Mossos d'Esquadra and Guardia Urbana responded to Sant Miquel beach following the alert. Responders were unable to locate the victim's identification, complicating the identification process.
“"Given the recent incidents, Protecció Civil has urged extreme caution at beaches, swimming pools, and other bathing areas. They also remind the public to call 112 urgently if they see a swimmer in distress or difficulty in the water, enabling emergency teams to act swiftly."
