Talks between the PP and Vox for the investiture of Juanma Moreno were progressing positively, with mutual "good disposition" suggesting a short-term agreement. However, recent declarations by the Mayor of Seville, José Luis Sanz, have caused an unexpected pause in the process.
In a radio interview, Sanz described the application of "national priority" in accessing public aid and social services as "illegal" and "unconstitutional," stating that "as long as I am Mayor of Seville, regardless of nationality, everyone will have the same rights." These words, which the Seville City Council has defended as a reiteration of previous PP stances, have been met with surprise and perplexity by Vox.
The intervention of the Seville mayor, who recently agreed on municipal budgets with Vox, has touched a sensitive point in the regional negotiations. Sources from the Andalusian PP remain silent amidst evident discontent, while Vox insists they will not accept conditions in Andalusia different from those already agreed upon in other regions like Extremadura, Aragon, and Castilla y León, where "national priority" is a key issue.
The spokesperson for Vox in Andalusia, Manuel Gavira, emphasized that they will not "change the script" and that demands, including "national priority," are non-negotiable for his party. The inclusion of execution deadlines for agreements is also a fundamental point for Vox, as seen in previous pacts.
Concurrently, the President of the Parliament, Jesús Aguirre, has begun consultations with the spokespersons of the parliamentary groups, summoning them for June 23 and 24, a necessary step to set the date for Juanma Moreno's investiture.
The negotiation of the Junta de Andalucía's budgets is presented as another key element, with Moreno aiming to secure their approval throughout the legislature and Vox's intention for agreed measures to have a defined execution period.
