The La Línea council has opened a 10-day period for citizens to provide their opinions on the proposed modification of the Honors and Distinctions Regulation. This prior public consultation is conducted in accordance with Law 39/2015, of October 1, on the Common Administrative Procedure of Public Administrations.
Opinions can be submitted through the City Council's Electronic Headquarters, addressed to the General Secretariat, under the specific heading for this consultation. The period began after the announcement's publication last Friday, July 31st, and once concluded, new contributions will no longer be accepted, although the content will remain available on the website.
The current regulation, published in the Official Gazette of the province of Cádiz on January 9, 2019, has served to govern the awarding of honors and define procedures. However, the time it has been in effect has revealed certain issues that the modification intends to address.
Among the points to be resolved are the contradiction between the lifetime granting of some titles and the possibility of awarding them posthumously, as well as the need to maintain a limited number of honors to ensure their excellence. Furthermore, the text aims to be more inclusive, replacing expressions such as “men and women” with the more generic term “people” wherever possible.
The ultimate goal of this regulatory initiative is to adapt the regulation to the municipality's current needs and enhance the inclusivity of the language used in granting honors and distinctions.
