La Oreja de Van Gogh's concert in Madrid, part of their 30th-anniversary celebration tour, is set to be an event filled with anticipation and controversy. The band will perform their greatest hits at the Movistar Arena, at a delicate time following the recent departure of their vocalist Leire Martínez, who was with the group for 17 years.
The decision to part ways with Leire Martínez, who replaced Amaia Montero in 2008, has sparked debate. After 17 years at the helm, her exit comes just before this commemorative reunion. The band, now with Amaia Montero, aims to relive their initial era, though comparisons to the past and recent criticisms have been swift.
Amaia Montero's last concert with the band in Madrid took place on May 10, 2007, as part of the LKXA Tour. On that occasion, they performed songs from their early albums, including hits like Soledad, Muñeca de trapo, and Rosas, as well as introducing new compositions such as En mi lado del sofá and Perdida. The night concluded with La playa.
Following that tour, Amaia Montero left the band on November 19, 2007, to begin her solo career, expressing her affection for her bandmates and the difficulty of the decision in a statement. The search for a new vocalist concluded with the introduction of Leire Martínez in July 2008.
The recent return of Amaia Montero to the stage with the band, announced under the slogan "Tantas cosas que contar" (So many things to tell), has been marked by performances that have drawn criticism. Despite the band's expressed emotion about reuniting, the Bilbao concert, which drew 30,000 attendees, was described by some as "off-key" and "one of the band's worst performances." Amaia Montero has defended her performance, stating she feels "practically indestructible" after the experience.
