The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has issued a yellow alert for this Friday in Jerez de la Frontera and its surrounding countryside, forecasting maximum temperatures of 38 degrees Celsius, possibly reaching 39º between 1 PM and 9 PM.
Yesterday, Thursday, already saw a peak of 39.7 degrees at the Jerez Airport station at 5 PM, according to Aemet data. These consecutive days of intense heat will give way to a brief respite this Saturday, with temperatures expected to drop to 32 degrees.
However, this relief will be short-lived, as a new rise in daytime temperatures is anticipated for Monday, returning to around 37 degrees, which could lead to new yellow alerts next week.
The heat is affecting all of Andalusia, with orange alerts forecast for Friday in Córdoba, Sevilla, and Jaén, where highs could reach 40 degrees. Cádiz, Granada, and Huelva will remain on yellow alert.
In addition to high temperatures, Aemet has also activated yellow alerts for rain and storms in Granada and Jaén, with Almería joining for a second consecutive day. Rainfall could accumulate up to 15 liters per square meter in an hour in areas like the Valle del Almanzora and Los Vélez in Almería, and Guadix and Baza in Granada.
Storms, potentially accompanied by very strong wind gusts and hail, will affect various Andalusian regions, including the Valle del Almanzora, Nacimiento y Campo de Tabernas in Almería; the Cuenca del Genil, Guadix y Baza, and Nevada y Alpujarras in Granada; and Cazorla y Segura, and Capital y Montes in Jaén.
Overall, skies are expected to be mostly clear in Andalusia, with some low clouds and mist along the Mediterranean coast and the Strait area. In the mountains, daytime cloud development could bring scattered showers and storms to the eastern interior in the afternoon.
