The works, expected to last until September 6th, will be carried out during nighttime hours, specifically between 8:00 PM and 8:00 AM. The aim is to minimize disruption to traffic on this vital communication route in the city of Granada.
The road will remain open to traffic, with the implementation of alternating lanes or 'transfers' to facilitate circulation, as reported by the Junta de Andalucía. This intervention involves an investment of 1.5 million euros.
The Minister of Development and Mobility, Mario Muñoz-Atanet, highlighted the "ambitious" nature of the Extraordinary Asphalting Plan, describing it as the "largest investment in improving the road surface of regional roads in the last 20 years," with a total budget of over 151 million euros for all of Andalucía.
Of this total figure, 17.5 million euros are allocated to the province of Granada, where improvements are being made to high-traffic roads, including the route between Alhendín and La Malahá, crucial for accessing Citai, and the Ronda Sur itself.
The operations will focus on the section between the La Zubia junction and the Serrallo tunnels, extending to the roundabout of the old Sierra Nevada road. This highway, which encircles the southern part of the city from the GR30, handles an average of approximately 67,000 vehicles daily.
The Extraordinary Asphalting Plan by the Junta de Andalucía aims to intervene on approximately 1,000 kilometers of 137 regional roads. The objective is to ensure high levels of safety and comfort for drivers, as well as to improve the structural integrity of the most deteriorated sections identified across the eight Andalusian provinces, following a prior analysis of the road network's condition.
Specific interventions include repairing potholes and soft spots, milling and replacing the pavement, restoring lower layers, laying bituminous mixtures, sealing surfaces, repainting horizontal signage, and replacing containment elements, beacons, and expansion joints on structures.
