This cultural event, established as one of the most unique in the Andalusian scene, aims to disseminate the past through historically accurate reenactments. The festival, organized by the Gilena Town Council, will take place at the Arqueódromo Campo de Marte, located within the Municipal Museum Collection.
Under the subtitle “Odyssey, a Mediterranean Tale”, the 2026 edition will focus its theme on Homeric works, offering an educational journey that merges archaeology, classical sources, and mythology. Approximately 140 reenactors from eleven nations are expected to participate, highlighting the international scope of the event.
Attendees will be able to explore emblematic episodes of the classical world, such as conflicts between peoples, the strategic importance of places like Ilion (Troy), or the symbolism of the journey back to Ithaca. All activities are designed to be didactic and accessible, while maintaining historical accuracy.
One of the most notable new features will be the reenactment of Homeric poems, an unprecedented proposal in this type of gathering. Mythical figures and passages such as the Trojan Horse, sirens, Polyphemus, Penelope, or Argos will come to life before the public, offering an immersive and unique experience.
The design and coordination of this project have been the result of a collaboration between the cities of Rome, Madrid, and Gilena, which reinforces the specialized and global nature of a festival that continues to establish itself as a benchmark in the historical dissemination of the ancient Mediterranean.
