The life of Royal Spanish Navy brigadier Francisco Pérez de Grandallana (1774-1841) was marked by decisive battles and the defense of Spanish territory.

The career of brigadier Francisco Pérez de Grandallana (1774 – 1841), originally from Jerez de la Frontera, is detailed through crucial moments of his naval and military life. His life was intertwined with significant historical events in Spain.
His military training officially began on November 14, 1793, when he joined the naval academy as a midshipman in the department of Cádiz. His first combat experiences occurred during the Roussillon campaign against the French Republic aboard the frigate Juno. He was later promoted to ensign and participated in the defense of Toulon under General Juan de Lángara.
In 1798, Pérez de Grandallana was at the Cádiz arsenal during the British attack. After a period of voluntary service, he returned in 1801 to take command of the brigantine Palomo. His career progressed with promotions, becoming a lieutenant in 1802 and subsequently commanding the corvettes Mercurio and Indagadora to secure naval routes.
In 1804, he was assigned to the arsenal in Ferrol, joining the squadron led by his uncle, Domingo Pérez de Grandallana. On October 21, 1805, he fought in the Battle of Trafalgar, an action that earned him promotion to frigate captain.
With the outbreak of the Peninsular War in 1808, the Superior Junta of Seville tasked him with organizing a battalion of volunteers. After participating in land battles, he was given command of the ship San Justo in 1809. He was captured by French troops on February 1, 1810, in Seville, and was not released until August 1812.
Following the restoration of the monarchy, in 1817, he commanded the frigate Diana and later the ship Fernando VII, one of the vessels acquired from Russia. In 1822, he took command of the ship Guerrero.
His career culminated with his promotion to brigadier of the Royal Spanish Navy in 1825. In 1831, he voluntarily retired to his hometown, Jerez, where he passed away on November 25, 1841. His service record, held at the General Archive of the Navy Álvaro de Bazán, details his numerous decorations.
