The Santa Bárbara Sistemas factory in Trubia (Oviedo) has dispatched the first 'Hunter' armored vehicle bound for Latvia. This unit, part of an order for 84 vehicles, will now proceed to the company's facilities in Alcalá de Guadaíra (Seville), where track tests will be conducted to verify its operational readiness.
This armored vehicle is the first of a batch of 84 units that the Latvian government ordered a year ago from Santa Bárbara Sistemas, under a contract valued at 387 million euros, expected to extend until 2037. The departure of this unit occurred several weeks ahead of the original schedule, which had set the first delivery for May.
The 'Hunter' program is based on the 'Ascod' platform, which was also adapted for the Spanish armored vehicles known as 'Pizarro'. This model, developed by Santa Bárbara, a subsidiary of the American company General Dynamics, has been chosen by Latvia as part of its military modernization strategy.
In terms of manufacturing and logistics, the Asturian company CEIT Logística, based in Gijón, has managed the transport of the units from Trubia to Seville. Additionally, Asturfeito has contributed to the production of the armored vehicles, being responsible for the design, manufacturing, and supply of the fuel tanks.
