The president of the Community of Madrid announced from Brussels that her government has filed an appeal with the Supreme Court against the migrant regularization process promoted by the central government. The request includes precautionary measures to immediately stop this initiative, which the president considers contrary to the Rule of Law and detrimental to public services.
“"The message cannot be, in the eyes of the world: 'There is no law in Spain. Spain is an open bar, come to Spain without any papers or order.'"
The president criticized that the measure seeks to regularize foreigners who can prove their stay in Spain since before January 1, 2026, and with five months of continuous residence, which, in her opinion, promotes a "massive regularization" of people with short stays in the country. She differentiated this situation from those who have been in Spain for years and need a legal pathway.
She also expressed concern about the potential strain this regularization would place on public services, such as healthcare and education, whose management falls to autonomous communities and municipalities. She insisted on the need for "law and order" to ensure balance and real integration, preventing the collapse of services.
Furthermore, the Madrid president used her speech to criticize the central government and the PSOE, referencing messages exchanged between the president of the Congress of Deputies and an advisor during the pandemic. She also highlighted the upcoming awarding of the Gold Medal of the Community of Madrid to a Venezuelan opposition figure, contrasting this event with a meeting of leaders in Barcelona.
