The autonomous community of Andalusia has experienced a slight increase in the number of births during the first two months of 2026, with a total of 9,609 babies registered, representing a 1.4% rise compared to the previous year.

According to the latest data from the National Institute of Statistics (INE), this rebound occurs despite a slight decrease in February, when 4,478 births were recorded, 61 fewer than in the same month of 2025. However, the cumulative balance for January and February maintains a positive trend.
By provinces, Seville led the number of births in February with 1,053, followed by Malaga with 825. Both provinces are consolidating their position as those with the largest demographic volume and birth rates in the region. They were followed by Cadiz with 600, Almeria with 520, and Granada with 491. In the remaining provinces, the figures were more moderate: Cordoba registered 381, Jaen 301, and Huelva closed the list with 307 births.
The age group with the highest number of births in Andalusia corresponds to women between 30 and 39 years old, with 2,757 births in February alone. Furthermore, there is a growing trend in motherhood at older ages, with 375 babies born to mothers over 40. In contrast, births among women under 30 continue to decline, reflecting a consistent demographic evolution over recent decades.
Regarding deaths, Andalusia recorded 14,585 during the first two months of 2026, representing a 2.51% increase compared to the same period last year. These initial data for 2026 show a recovery in the birth rate, although the region is still marked by structural trends such as delaying the age for having children and an increase in mortality.
