The Ateneo de Jerez has organized a reading club to discuss State of Unease, the acclaimed work by author Nina Lykke. The literary event aims to offer a critical and sharp perspective on the complexities and contradictions of the contemporary middle class, using Nordic black humor as an analytical tool.
The activity is divided into two independent sessions to facilitate attendance. The first group will meet on Monday, May 25, 2026, and the second group will convene on Wednesday, May 27, 2026. Both sessions will commence at 7:30 PM at the institution's headquarters.
The discussions will take place in person at the Ateneo de Jerez facilities, located at Calle San Cristóbal number 8, in the heart of the city. The setting is designed to foster an environment conducive to the exchange of ideas and intellectual reflection.
State of Unease is presented as an uncomfortable and amusing mirror to contemporary bourgeoisie, dissecting modern dissatisfactions, apparent success, and hidden miseries. Attendees will explore how current literature employs cynicism and irony to expose the emptiness of a comfortable routine.
