Loyola University Andalucía has celebrated the eighth edition of its 'Emerging Artists' Creation Contest, an event that recognizes young talent in the artistic field. This year, Paula López's work 'La nuit de cristal' took home the Rector's Grand Prize, while Cordoban artist Ana López received the Special Fundación Botí Award for her photograph 'Me despertaré cuando alguien me despierte'.
The jury highlighted a record number of submissions and a significant qualitative leap compared to previous editions. López's winning oil painting on wood explores the need for resistance and inhabiting intimacy amidst uncertainty. This main award comes with a 1,200 euro prize, and the artwork will become part of Loyola University's Contemporary Art Collection.
Ana López, in turn, was honored with the Special Fundación Botí Award for her double-exposure photograph. According to the artist, the piece reflects on the current world as a 'continuous and hyper-connected showcase to other realities,' where possibilities coexist with the feeling that 'everything is done' and the fear of awakening one's own potential.
The contest also recognized other categories: the Painting Award went to Rafael Herrera for 'Anhelo'; the Sculpture Award to Lola Goyanes for 'Limpias el toldo pensando en el verano'; and the Photography Award to Miriam Cánovas for 'Huecos vacíos y sombras de narración'. Additionally, two Honorable Mentions were awarded.
The exhibition of the selected works is open to the public at the Valentín de Madariaga Foundation in Sevilla until June 28. The Foundation's president, Valentín de Madariaga Parias, emphasized the importance of supporting young talent and creating opportunities, while Loyola University's rector, Fabio Gómez Estern, reaffirmed the institution's commitment to art and culture as tools for social justice.
