The Ronda City Council has initiated the cork harvest in the forests it owns, located within the municipality of Cortes de la Frontera, in the Los Alcornocales Natural Park.

The work is specifically taking place in the areas known as Las Majadas de Ronda and El Berrueco. The Councilor for Forests, Juan Carlos González, has visited the site to oversee the progress of these operations.
For this year, 2026, the municipal administration aims to obtain approximately 488,625.85 kilograms of cork, which equates to 10,622.30 Castilian quintals. González highlighted the comprehensive utilization of its forests by the Ronda Council, identifying cork as the primary resource, while also mentioning the importance of livestock, pasture, and timber.
The cork harvesting tasks have been awarded this year to the company Óscar Rodríguez Fernández, after it won the tender divided into several lots. These operations are expected to generate around 1,200 workdays.
In 2025, the Ronda City Council earned over 600,000 euros from the sale of cork extracted from these cork oak forests. The municipal delegate for Forests emphasized that these activities provide a considerable annual economic injection to the municipal coffers, in addition to contributing to forest maintenance.
Furthermore, González referred to improvement works on local roads being carried out by the Junta de Andalucía, through the Ministry of Sustainability and Environment, as part of the repair efforts for damage caused by recent storm systems.
