The Ronda City Council has awarded the contract for the installation of new artistic lighting on the iconic New Bridge, a project designed by Javier Górriz and co-financed by Fundación Endesa.

The Councilor for Tourism of the Ronda City Council and head of the municipal company Turismo de Ronda, S. A., Ángel Martínez, announced the awarding of the contract to equip the Puente Nuevo with artistic lighting. The company ANEUM LED, S. L. will be responsible for executing this project, designed by Javier Górriz, which combines architecture and light.
The initiative is supported by Fundación Endesa, which will co-finance the work. The total investment amounts to approximately 210,000 euros. Martínez noted that the execution period will be five months, and the project is expected to be completed this year, ideally by the end of September, coinciding with World Tourism Day.
“We are going to transform the lighting of the Puente Nuevo in collaboration with Fundación Endesa,” stated Martínez. This initiative aims to make Ronda's nighttime tourist offer more attractive, with the goal of increasing overnight stays. Turismo de Ronda, S. A. is promoting this line of work through various actions, such as improving the lighting of spaces like the Murallas at the Almocábar gate, the Arco de Felipe V, and the Plaza de Los Descalzos.
The new artistic lighting will enhance the architectural value of the Puente Nuevo, an 18th-century engineering work directed by José Martín de Aldehuela. With 233 years of history, the bridge connected the two parts of the city separated by the Tajo gorge and opened to traffic in 1793. Its construction, at approximately 100 meters high, was complex and required rebuilding after a collapse.
Currently, the Puente Nuevo has obsolete lighting. The new project will halve CO2 emissions, reducing them by 4.8 tons per year, and achieve an energy saving of 9.4 kW. LED technology will be used, improving the visual impact of the current, deficient equipment.
Fundación Endesa, committed to a just and sustainable energy transition, has completed over 700 historical-artistic heritage lighting projects across Spain. Of these, 330 have been carried out in Andalusia, including 24 in the province of Málaga, such as the Alcazaba of Antequera, the Caminito del Rey, the Picasso Museum of Málaga, and the Puente Nuevo of Ronda itself in 1995.
