The Andalusian Emergency Agency (EMA), under the Ministry of Health, Presidency and Emergencies, carried out a fire simulation exercise this Tuesday in an urban-forest interface area in the municipality of Gaucín. The main objective was to verify response mechanisms in a real emergency situation.
During the drill, the Gaucín City Council activated its Local Plan for Forest Fire Risk. The operation involved 169 personnel from 23 emergency services. The Minister of Health, Presidency and Emergencies elevated the Andalusian Forest Fire Emergency Plan (Plan Infoca) to emergency phase, operational situation 1.
“"It is of vital importance to periodically carry out this type of drills to test the effectiveness of emergency plans, as well as the coordination and response that operational services would provide in the event of a real fire. The main purpose of these exercises is none other than to protect the lives of citizens and preserve the natural environment."
As part of the exercise, the Es-Alert system, also known as reverse 112, was used to send a message to residents in the area. This alert informed about a preventive confinement in homes on Las Parras street and for students and teachers of Guzmán el Bueno school, demonstrating the capacity for communication with the population in case of need.
