The Consistory of Vícar, through its mayor Antonio Bonilla, has presented a proposal to provisionally house the Civil Guard agents stationed at the Roquetas de Mar barracks. This offer arises from the imminent closure of the Roquetas facilities and the lack of a definitive destination for nearly 200 agents and their families.
The proposal involves using the facilities of the Casa de la Juventud y el Deporte in Vícar as a provisional barracks while the construction of the new barracks planned for the municipality, expected to be completed by 2029, takes place. Mayor Bonilla has expressed his desire to avoid the closure of barracks but, facing the possibility, offers this temporary solution.
This initiative was discussed during several extraordinary sessions of the Municipal Plenary of Vícar, which focused on local security. The Consistory believes this offer reaffirms the mayor's commitment to improving security in the municipality.
Additionally, the mayor will propose to the FAMP (Federation of Municipalities of Andalusia) an increase in the allocation of Community of Autonomous Tributary Participation funds to be used for expanding the Local Police force. The Plenary has already approved increasing this force by four officers annually, in addition to the seven new officers to be incorporated soon. A request will also be made to the National Government for increased Civil Guard resources for the Poniente region, as a complementary measure to municipal reinforcement.
Antonio Bonilla has emphasized citizen security as a political priority, advocating for concrete solutions, increased resources, and inter-administrative collaboration. In this regard, a petition will also be submitted to the European Union to allocate more material and human resources for controlling the southern border, a key entry point for drug trafficking.
