The municipality of Vícar is preparing to host the 'Walking among Candles' event on August 13th. This activity, aiming to be an artistic and cultural benchmark, will coincide with the Perseid meteor shower, making the town a meeting point for thousands of visitors.
In a meeting initiated by the mayor, Antonio Bonilla, representatives from various security forces and bodies participated. These included the Lieutenant Commander of the Civil Guard post in Vícar, José Manuel Vargas; the Head of the Local Police, Tomás José Zamora; the councilors for Citizen Security, Evaristo López, and for Culture, Festivities, and Participation, Vanesa Lidueña and Encarnación Martínez Rubio; and the coordinator of Civil Protection, José Antonio Gómez. The main objective was to organize and finalize the details of the security deployment to ensure the utmost safety for attendees.
The mayor of Vícar highlighted the event's significance as "the great sociocultural event of the summer in the municipality," emphasizing its organizational complexity due to the expected thousands of attendees. "Fluid communication among all involved parties is essential for the celebration to proceed successfully, always striving to preserve the beauty of the environment and the activity itself, while guaranteeing visitor safety at all times," he stated.
Antonio Bonilla assured that all necessary resources will be allocated to guarantee the safety of participants. He also expressed gratitude for the collaboration of municipal staff, security forces, and Civil Protection volunteers in preparing the event.
