The name of Vícar resonated this Sunday during the celebration of the XLIII Traditional Music Festival of La Alpujarra, with the presence of its mayor, Antonio Bonilla, accompanied by the provincial deputy and councilor for Culture, Vanesa Lidueña, and the councilor for Culture, Francisca Hernández.
"The Traditional Music Festival of La Alpujarra reminds us who we are and where we come from," stated Antonio Bonilla, emphasizing that "a town that honors its roots always finds the way to the future." From Vícar, Bonilla champions the defense of Alpujarran culture through the recent signing of an agreement with the University of Granada to establish the Cátedra del Trovo. This chair aims to promote studies on the art of Alpujarran improvisation to ensure its continuity.
The University of Granada recognized the involvement of the mayor of Vícar in this project on July 31. The municipality of Vícar maintains a strong connection with the festival, having been the capital of La Alpujarra for its XL edition in 2023.
During the event, the mayor of Vícar shared emotional moments, highlighting the work of the president of the Abuxarra Association, Juan José Bonilla, and of all those who promote Alpujarran culture.
