The Provincial Council of Almería and the Roquetas de Mar City Council have joined forces to promote key projects in the municipality. The provincial institution will participate in financing a new Town Hall, adapted to current needs, and in the comprehensive renovation of the Plaza de la Constitución.
The president of the Provincial Council of Almería, José Antonio García Alcaina, met with the mayor of Roquetas de Mar, Gabriel Amat, to finalize the Council's participation in this strategic project. The supra-municipal investment will amount to 3 million euros, distributed as 1.5 million for this year and the same amount for 2027. The total estimated cost of the project, which includes the new town hall and the renovation of its surroundings, is 15 million euros and is currently in the pre-tender phase.
García Alcaina stated that this alliance aims to benefit society as a whole, providing Roquetas de Mar, one of the fastest-growing municipalities in the province, with a more comfortable, efficient, accessible, and modern town hall. He emphasized that the new building will be a 21st-century landmark, meeting citizens' expectations, and that the transformation of the urban center will include more pedestrian streets and new attractions such as a museum or an urban observatory.
For his part, Gabriel Amat thanked the Provincial Council of Almería for its support, highlighting the importance of collaboration between administrations to modernize municipal public services and make Roquetas de Mar a more accessible, sustainable, and people-centered space. He stressed that this project will create new public spaces for enjoyment and coexistence.
The project plans to replace the current municipal headquarters with a new building featuring modern, versatile facilities focused on citizen service. The interior layout will concentrate public attention services on the ground floor, next to the plenary hall, while technical and administrative areas will be located on upper floors that are open and modular. The plenary hall can be opened to the lobby for institutional and citizen use, and multipurpose spaces, press rooms, and a rooftop meeting area are planned. It will also include an underground parking facility with 46 spaces, electric charging points, and archive areas.
The intervention will transform the heart of Roquetas de Mar by creating a new civic and administrative axis. Over 560 square meters of public space will be recovered and integrated into the Plaza de la Constitución and the Plaza Luis Martín, forming a large "urban living room." The design will feature an open central atrium and will adhere to strict criteria of universal accessibility, sustainability, and climate comfort, incorporating rest areas, low-consumption LED lighting, and Mediterranean vegetation, aiming to revitalize the urban center and promote pedestrian mobility.
