The Castillo de Santa Ana served as the venue for the reception of the delegations, marking the beginning of this important sporting event. The championship, which will take place at the Evenia Zoraida Garden Hotel, will gather approximately 150 participants, including players, coaches, delegates, and interpreters, with the possibility of reaching 180 people.
The event is organized by the Club Deportivo de Personas Sordas Indalo de Almería, under the auspices of the International Chess Committee of the Deaf (ICCD). It has the support of various institutions such as the Roquetas de Mar City Council, the Junta de Andalucía, the Diputación de Almería, the Consejo Superior de Deportes, and the Fundación Unicaja.
“"For the city, hosting an event of this relevance represents an opportunity for organizers, participants, and companions to discover the city and, at the same time, collaborate so that these types of international events can take place in Roquetas de Mar in the same way that other sporting and cultural events are held."
The championship features various official modalities, including the World Team Championships in Open, women's, and junior categories, as well as Rapid and Blitz competitions. The 14th Open International Chess Tournament and the 38th ICCD International Congress will also be held on May 14.
This international event not only stands out for its high competitive and inclusive level but is also expected to generate a significant economic impact on the region. More than 1,100 overnight stays and an average stay of 9 days are estimated, which will benefit sectors such as hospitality, catering, local commerce, and municipal logistics services.
